Open CAP Player on your TV and note the MAC address and the Device Key on the welcome screen. On your phone or computer, go to capplayer.com/login, enter both and press LOGIN. Click ADD PLAYLIST, give the list a name, paste your Smootv M3U link and press SAVE. Back on the TV, press Reload, open Playlists and choose your list. Live TV, Movies and Series then fill with your Smootv content.
What You Need
- The CAP Player app installed on your TV or device
- Your Smootv M3U link (it is in the message we sent you with your trial or subscription)
- A phone or computer to open the CAP Player website
Good to know
CAP Player is only a media player. The app itself says so: it does not provide any content, you supply your own. Its makers are a separate company from Smootv, so anything about the app itself, such as activating the device, is handled by CAP Player.
Step 1: Note Your MAC Address and Device Key
Open CAP Player on your TV. As long as no playlist has been added, the welcome screen shows two things: your MAC address, written as six pairs separated by colons, and below it the line Your Device Key is, followed by a number. Write both down or take a photo. You need them to log in on the website.
Step 2: Log In on the CAP Player Website
On your phone or computer, open the login page of CAP Player: capplayer.com/login
- In the first field, type the MAC address from your TV, including the colons.
- In the second field, type your Device Key.
- Press LOGIN.
Step 3: Add Your Smootv Playlist
After logging in you land on the page for your device. It lists your MAC address, Device Key, the expiry date and the status of the app. Below that box, press ADD PLAYLIST.
- In Playlist Name, type a name for the list. Anything works, for example Smootv.
- In Playlist Url, paste your Smootv M3U link.
- Press SAVE.
Copy and paste the M3U link instead of typing it. One wrong character is enough to leave the app empty.
Want a PIN on your playlist?
Tick Protect This Playlist in the same window and enter a PIN twice. The website states that a protected playlist cannot be viewed or changed without that PIN, so keep it somewhere safe.

Step 4: Reload the App and Open Your Playlist
Go back to the TV and press Reload on the welcome screen. The home screen of CAP Player opens with Live TV, Movies, Series, Replay and Playlists. Press Playlists.
Your list appears under the name you gave it. Select it, and a green check mark appears next to it. Go back to the home screen and Live TV, Movies and Series are filled with your Smootv channels, films and series.
That is all. The playlist stays linked to this device, so you only do this once.
If Something Does Not Work
The website does not accept my login
Type the MAC address exactly as the TV shows it, with the colons between the pairs. The letter O and the number 0 are easy to mix up, and so are the letter B and the number 8. Then check the Device Key digit by digit.
The app still shows the welcome screen or stays empty
Press Reload first. If nothing changes, log in on the website again and check that the playlist is in the list and that the M3U link was pasted in full. Then open Playlists in the app and select your list.
I forgot the PIN of my protected playlist
A protected playlist cannot be opened or changed without its PIN. Contact CAP Player support, because they manage the website. If you need your M3U link again, message us and we will send it.
The picture buffers or freezes
Use a network cable or 5 GHz Wi-Fi. You need about 25 Mbps for HD and 50 Mbps for 4K. Restarting your router and the app often helps as well.
CAP Player Questions
Where do I find my CAP Player MAC address and Device Key?
On the welcome screen when you open the app for the first time. Once a playlist is loaded, open Playlists in the app: both values are shown on the right side of that screen.
Does CAP Player come with channels?
No. CAP Player is a media player and states in the app that it does not provide any content. Channels, films and series come from your Smootv playlist.
Can I use my Xtream Codes login instead of an M3U link?
Yes. Next to ADD PLAYLIST the website has an ADD XC PLAYLIST button, and the Playlists screen in the app has Add xtream codes. Both ways load the same Smootv content, so use the one you find easier.
The website shows Status: Trial. What does that mean?
It means the app itself is running in its test period, which ends on the expiry date shown on the same page. To keep using the app after that date, use Activate device on that page. That activation is a CAP Player matter and is separate from your Smootv subscription.
Do I have to add the playlist again when I renew Smootv?
No, as long as your M3U link stays the same. If we send you a new link, log in on the website once and add it there.
