Complete guide to setting up Smart IPTV (SIPTV) on Samsung and LG Smart TVs. From installation to your first channel in less than 10 minutes.
Smart IPTV (also known as SIPTV) is one of the most popular IPTV apps for Samsung and LG Smart TVs. The big advantage: you don’t need an extra box. You install the app on your TV, upload your channel list via a simple website, and you’re watching. The whole process takes less than ten minutes if you know what you’re doing.
In this guide I walk you through the process step by step — separately for Samsung and LG, because the steps are slightly different. After that I cover the most common problems and their solutions, and I compare Smart IPTV with alternatives such as TiviMate, Flix IPTV and SET IPTV.
You’ll need the following: a Samsung or LG Smart TV from 2017 or newer, a working internet connection, an IPTV subscription with an M3U link (you get this from your provider — Smootv supplies both M3U and Xtream Codes), and a computer or phone to upload the M3U link.
Smart IPTV is a third-party app (not made by Samsung or LG themselves) that lets you watch IPTV channels on Smart TVs. The app costs a one-off €5.49 after a free seven-day trial period. You pay per TV — if you have two TVs, you pay twice. The app is linked to your TV’s MAC address, which means you need a separate licence for each device.
The app supports M3U playlists and is configured via the website siptv.app/mylist. There you enter your TV’s MAC address and your IPTV provider’s M3U link. The app then fetches the channel list automatically.
Important: Smart IPTV only provides the app. It doesn’t include any channels. For those you need a separate IPTV subscription, such as the one from Smootv. The app is just the player; the provider supplies the content.
These instructions apply to Samsung Smart TVs with Tizen OS (2017 and newer — model series with M, N, R, T, AU, QN, and newer in the model name).
Press the Home button on your Samsung remote. Navigate to Apps and open the Samsung App Store. Search for “Smart IPTV” or “SIPTV” in the search bar. Install the app. If you can’t find the app via search, try looking in the “Video” or “Entertainment” category. On some Samsung models the app comes pre-installed.
Note: Samsung has removed Smart IPTV from the App Store in some regions. If you can’t find the app, read the “Alternatives” section further down for other options (Flix IPTV, SET IPTV, OTT Navigator).
Open the Smart IPTV app on your TV. On first launch, the app shows a screen with your MAC address (a code in the format XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX). Note this address down carefully — you’ll need it in the next step. Tip: take a photo with your phone so you don’t copy it down incorrectly. You can also find the MAC address in the TV settings, under Network or About This TV, but the address shown in the Smart IPTV app is the right one to use.
Open a browser on your computer or phone and go to siptv.app/mylist. Fill in the form:
Click Send. You’ll get a confirmation that the playlist has been added.
Go back to your TV and close the Smart IPTV app completely (press the back button until you’re on the home screen, or hold down the back button to close the app). Open the app again. The channel list will now load automatically. The first time, this can take two to five minutes, depending on the number of channels. With Smootv’s 19,000+ channels, the first load takes three to four minutes. After that the channels are cached and it loads faster.
These instructions apply to LG Smart TVs with webOS (2017 and newer). The process is similar to Samsung, but the app installation differs.
Press the Home button on your LG remote. Go to the LG Content Store (the shop icon). Search for “Smart IPTV”. Install the app. On LG TVs, Smart IPTV is generally more widely available than on Samsung. If you can’t find the app, check that your TV is connected to the internet and that you’re signed in to your LG account.
Open the Smart IPTV app. The MAC address is shown on the app’s start screen. Note it down or take a photo. On LG TVs the MAC address usually starts with a different prefix than on Samsung, but the format is the same (XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX).
Identical to the Samsung step: go to siptv.app/mylist on your computer or phone, enter your MAC address and M3U link, and click Send. Optionally, under “Country” you can choose “Netherlands” so the EPG is automatically matched to Dutch channels.
Close the Smart IPTV app on your LG TV and open it again. On LG webOS you can force-close the app by pointing at the app in the home menu and then clicking the small cross above it. After restarting, the channel list loads automatically. You can now flick between all your channels using the arrow keys on your LG Magic Remote or standard remote.
Smart IPTV works without problems for most people, but there are a few common issues. Here are the solutions to the five most frequent ones:
Samsung has removed Smart IPTV from the app store in some countries and on some TV models. Three solutions: (1) Use an alternative app such as Flix IPTV (€7.99 one-off) or SET IPTV (€7.99 one-off) — these are often still available. (2) Install the app via a USB stick (sideloading). (3) Consider an IPTV box such as the Fire TV Stick 4K (€45) — on it you can install TiviMate, which is a better app than Smart IPTV.
The most common cause: you haven’t restarted the app properly. Close the app completely (don’t just minimise it) and open it again. Other causes: (1) The MAC address was entered incorrectly on siptv.app/mylist — check every character. (2) The M3U link has expired or is incorrect — ask your provider for a new link. (3) Your TV isn’t connected to the internet — check your Wi-Fi connection in the TV settings.
Buffering rarely has anything to do with the app and almost always with your internet connection. Checklist: (1) Test your internet speed on the TV via the browser — you need at least 25 Mbps for HD. (2) Use the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band, not 2.4 GHz. (3) Move your router closer to the TV, or use an Ethernet cable. (4) Restart your router (unplug it, wait 30 seconds, switch it back on). (5) If the problem only occurs on specific channels, it’s probably down to your IPTV provider’s server — contact support.
Smart IPTV only shows an EPG if your IPTV provider includes it in the M3U link. With Smootv, the EPG is included as standard. If you don’t see any programme information, go to siptv.app/mylist, upload your link again, and tick the “EPG” option. You can also add an EPG URL manually in the “EPG URL” field. Restart the app after making the change.

My recommendation: if you have a Samsung or LG TV and don’t want to buy a separate box, use Flix IPTV. It supports Xtream Codes (which Smart IPTV doesn’t), has a better EPG, and is available in both the Samsung and LG app stores. If you’re willing to spend €45 on a Fire TV Stick 4K, you can use TiviMate — the undisputed best IPTV app out there.
Smart IPTV is a simple app, but with a few tweaks you can improve the experience considerably. These tips are based on two years of daily use on my Samsung QN85B and LG C2 OLED.

M3U is a URL that contains a list of all channels. It’s universal and works with virtually any media player. Xtream Codes is a login system (server, username, password) that offers more features: a better EPG, catch-up, favourites lists, and automatic updates. Smart IPTV only supports M3U. Apps such as Flix IPTV, SET IPTV and TiviMate support both. Smootv supplies both M3U and Xtream Codes, so you can always choose.
If your channel list changes (new channels, a changed URL), go to siptv.app/mylist again, enter your MAC address with the new M3U link, and click Send. Then restart the app on your TV. If you ticked “Keep online”, the list is updated automatically from time to time.
